Day 42: Pasto, Colombia to Ibarra, Ecuador

Rolled into Ecuador today around 10:30am.  Nice ride though the mountains to get here.  Ran into two other adventure bikers while processing though Ecuador/Colombia customs and teamed up with them for about 120 miles. They were both from Bogota doing a 10-day down and back to Quito.  Man can they ride.  They were in their 50's and both on new BMWs 1200s.  They were fast, it was all I could do to keep up with them, looked down at one point and I was doing over 100mph on a single lane road. They were flying through bends with such speed that I could feel my rear tire on the verge of loosing grip. They have been riding these roads their entire lives, and they new them well,  Needless to say, we made great time.  We rolled into Ibarra, had lunch, then went our separate ways.  Real nice guys.

I am staying in this little mountain town called Esperanza, just outside Ibarra. Neat little place, caters to eco-tourism, trips to the local volcano, and  not much else.  There is one street in the town and three parties are going on at the locals homes.

Heading down to Quito tomorrow.  Plan to hook up with my friend Chris, see the city, visit the equator.
