Day 43: Ibarra, Ecuador to Quito, Ecuador

Nice ride out of Ibarra today, light traffic, new roads and plenty of hills. Rolled into Quito around lunch time, and had a Hell's Angel dude roll up on me and try to stare me down. Two things I learned by that experience: 1) We export some of the most embarrassing stuff out of our country, and 2) Hell's Angels guys are at a loss as to what to do when they are alone and you laugh at them.  What a douche.  I looked on their website, and apparently this new chapter just opened, which means he probably has just not honed his intimidation tactics yet.

Walked around a bit today,  It's Sunday, and in Central and South America they tend to roll up the streets and hide indoors on this day, so there was nothing open (except for Subway, McDonald's and Burger King) but I was able to get some insight as to the level of prosperity for this area.  Any questions I may of had went away when I passed the Bugatti dealership.  Quito so far seems like a newer up-and-coming city.  So far I am a bit impressed.

Apparently Ecuador does not have its own currency, and they use US dollars in lieu (same as Panama). They do have their own change which is odd, but they use one of our coins also. Remember when the Sacajawea dollar was introduced in the US, hated, then abandoned,  Well they were all shipped here.  Been in the country for two days now and have 10 of them in my pocket.  I always thought they were a good idea, in my opinion, the coin would of caught on if we got rid of the penny, nickel and paper dollar at the same time.
