Day 14: Cheturnal, Mexico to San Ignacio, Belize

Today started with the Mexico/Belize border crossing.  Having skated through the US/Mexico border without any inspection, document processing, or even a passport check, I was concerned that all of those items would be reviewed, found missing, and the Federale corruption would begin.  After all, I had done extensive research on this issue, and that looked like what was awaiting me.   Much to my surprise, not only did they not check documents, they never even asked me to stop.  There were two inspection officers sitting on their respective asses who just waved me though.  The Belize side was a bit more traditional.

The wonderful roadway system, including its informative signage, I enjoyed in US and Mexico appears to be long gone now.  I drove over 80 miles on single lane sand roads through the jungles, national parks, and farmlands of Belize.  It was actually quite interesting,  The GPS had most of the roads mapped, but not all, and not accurately.  I was pretty well lost then I ran into the first human in over an hour and he turned out to be a Mennonite farmer.  Apparently, the group has purchased a massively large piece of land, created a community down here, and are farming in Belize.  Go figure.

Off to Guatemala tomorrow.
