Day 13: Volladolid, Mexico to Chetumal, Mexico

Short haul today.  Ended up on a remote stretch of highway with zero gasoline stations.  I could not believe it.  Fifty. sixty, seventy miles without a station. Range anxiety started settling in, and nothing but small little towns with one small convenience store, usually only stocked 20 percent full.  So with just 30 miles of fuel left in my main tank (auxiliary was still full), I asked two guys that were sitting on the corner watching life go by, where there was gasoline to be found.  They looked at me like I was an idiot, pointed back and said 100 meters  I turned a round, looked for a while, and was feeling even stupider now because I still cant find it, so I asked some kid to take me to the place.  He pointed at this blue house, with a 4" x 6" sign that said "tiene gasolina."  I pull up, some kid walks out and asks how many liters, I say say doce," he then walks into the house, and then back out with water bottles filled with gasoline.  Apparently this is pretty common here.  Same price as the gas station.

Tomorrow I am off to Belize.  Second border crossing, and first day with the new GPS mapping software.  I am a little concerned about it.  According to Google, my next stop is less than 150 miles away. the GPS indicates that it is 464 miles away.  I am hoping it is just an issue where the two different systems are not interacting well. and that it will rectify it self once I am completely on the new map.

Trip Summary
This Leg: 211 miles
Total Distance: 3,265 miles
Border Crossings: 1
