Day 67: Nazca, Peru to Abancay, Peru

Long day in the saddle today, just over 8 hours.  My backside is quite tender.  The riding was great though.  I came out of Nazca about 8:00 am and went directly in the mountains.  The initial climb was as anxiety inducing as it was scenic.  An hour of climbing with twists, turns and switchbacks, and not a guardrail in site, one false move and I would be tumbling down hundreds, if not thousands, of feet.  The climb topped out at 15,000 feet and leveled out for the next 5 hours, then back down again. The 5 hour journey along the plateau was intoxicating.  For the most part, it was just me, the empty road, and about 1,000 llamas.

Tomorrow I head out to Cusco.
