Took off this morning out of Chiclayo on another trip though the rather chilly desert, I am still a little boggled as to why it is this cold down here. I am at sea level, just south of the equator. Should be warm...right? Oh well. Other than the nice accommodations ($15.00/night) I had in Chiclayo, the City was more of the same. Huanchaco is a very nice little sea town with hotels, restaurants, surf schools, and people just relaxing. If I had kept up with surfing, I would be in heaven. There are long breakers, multiple surf spots and few surfers.
I was impressed by the construction of these boats. They appear to made of reeds and can handle the surf with 3-4 people on board. I got up close to one to see how there were constructed, and they are nothing but reeds tied to huge Styrofoam logs, same way their great ancestors use to make them I am sure :-).
