Did not make it to Peru today, I am sitting about an hour from the border, waiting to traverse it tomorrow morning. My plans changed early on when I started researching the border crossing, and read accounts of 4-hour ordeals, complete with scam artists, pick pockets, and difficult customs officers. So I altered my destination to Guabo. Good thing too, the road from Cuenca was in such terrible shape, that it all but disappeared for miles at a time. The 3 hour journey took in excess of five hours I realized two things on the ride: 1) no matter how bad the road got, I could always look over and see awesome sights like the one to the right. 2) there is no other way to complete this journey without an adventure bike. I could not imagine doing this trip with a Harley Davidson. The road improved for the last 20 miles, this part of the trip wound though banana plantations. Kind of cool as you feel like Ton Thumb driving though massive plant like trees. Tomorrow it is off to Peru....for real.
