Long day in the saddle today, 8 hours. Great riding, great scenery, and had the roads to myself for hours on end, but my backside is killing me (BMW, you make a great bike, maybe you should outsource the seat). I did have one bizarre experience. I came into this old mountain town. The locals were dressed in traditional garb - not for show, just never went modern - and they were such a closed society. They refused to acknowledge my presence. I went into a convenience store, the staff walked around me to help customers that had just walked in. I walked into a bakery and tried to order, and no one would help me. Again, locals would walk in and they were immediately served. I was walking down the street and the towns people would just stare at me with a "your not welcome" look. It was like an episode from a bad drama series from the 70s. Oh well, I just got up and left.
Tomorrow I head to the border and down the Peruvian coast. This is the part of the trip I have been most looking forward to. I hope it is everything I have been building it up to be.
