Day 6: Monterrey, Mexico to San Luis Potosi

First day in the mountains.  Glad to get here as the temperatures are a rather pleasant 75-80 degrees, much nicer than the 100+ degrees from the lower desserts.  I am noticing, due to elevation (6,200' MSL), that the bike is loosing some power in the lower gears.  No major issues, just need to keep the engine at a higher RPM when starting from a standstill (note:  Later found out it was bad gas, Mexico has quite a bit of it).

I am staying in an old Franciscan monastery that has been converted into a hotel. The building dates back to 1583 and is quite impressive.  The city has allot of charm.  The historical section has been kept up well, which is nice to see as this is not a tourist destination.  The whole area is served by walking streets and stone work.  Mexico has been amazing me.  My impressions until this trip have been gleaned from resort areas and border towns, basically the haves and have-nots, but non-resort areas of this country are incredibly beautiful and very livable.
