Day 81: Puno, Peru to La Paz, Bolivia

Where did Butch Cassidy, The Sundance Kid and Che Guevara meet their early demise?  Bolivia.  I crossed the border at Desaguadero today and entered into to Bolivia.  The border crossing was an easy one, just 10 minutes on the Peru side (5 for the passport, 5 for the bike), and 20 minutes on the Bolivia side (5 for the passport, 15 for the bike).  My first impressions of Bolivia are guarded.

I have seen good and bad in the first 75 miles or so.  The roads and villages leading up to La Paz were rather shabby, but once I entered the City, it is quite beautiful with a mixture of old and new structures, all pretty decent shape, with some needing repair.  The architecture has a Spanish Colonial flavor.  Traffic both in and out of the City has not been bad at all.

Tomorrow I head south towards Uyuni, The question at hand is how much of Route 30 between Challapata and Chita is paved.
